Default Help!

I'm an owner of a Discovery II 2004 Diesel (200,000km). My Disco is not slipping into D, 3, 2 or1. It will slip into P,R and N. Is it possible that there is a problem with a linkage that is jammed?
I've checked fluids, all seems ok.

Is your transfer case in Neutral?

no it's not. I can put transfer case in P, R or N. Not further than that tho.

If fluid is dark, and/or smells like a coffee pot that has boiled dry, could be clutches are gone. Their material makes the particles in the fluid that cause the dark color. But the unit is an electrically shifted transmission, so the XYZ switch on the side tells the computer which gears to select.

Saw the same thing on another forum yesterday; likely that it's a jammed shifter, maybe by a coin. Pull the auto **** straight up, but be careful not to hit yourself in the chin. Then carefully lever the gear indicator surround off and see if there are any coins jamming the mechanisms.

The transfer case is the lever in front of your transmission selector. It has a 4Lo, N and 4Hi, if you have an '04 you should also have the option to lock the center differential to deliver equal power to front and rear axles. There is no "P" or "R" on the transfer case.

I doubt that is the problem, but you should confirm that it's engaged.

ALSO, it will help others help you if you get a little better acquainted with your vehicle. Further, you should really find some dirt road or gravel lot (no dry pavement) and exercise that center diff lock every couple months. Then in the off chance that you actually need the max traction, it will actually work.

Hope you got it sorted out!
