Default Help! '96 Discovery Is Falling Apart

While I love driving my Disco, I'm having more than my fair share of troubles.

1. Blinkers - I no longer have blinkers. They still work when I turn the alarm on and off. The Land Rover specialist I took it to charged me $100/hr just to tell me that they would have to take 1/2 a day to go through all the electrical wires to find the exact problem . . . at $100/hr. It would cost more to actually fix the problems.

2. I'm leaking power steering fluid from I don't know where.

3. My trunk door latch is not working properly. I have to slam it shut like 15 times and still it might fly open while driving.

4. My hood pops up if I go over bumpy roads (which in this city is pretty hard to avoid).

I want to take care of these things but I make so little money that to spend $100/hr and not actually have the problem fixed seems a bit ridiculous. Any suggestions out there?

So go power scrubs the p/s hose, gear box and pump to find your leak, this isn't rocket science.
Whoever told you, if something doesn't work, slam it till it does, how about cleaning, lubing and adjusting the latch???
How about cleaning, lubing and adjusting your hood latch???

I had to adjust most of the doors on my discovery and its only got 47k...

Get yourself a big phillips screwdriver, have a good look at the door mechanism for loose, missing screws, then look at the door strike, its going to take an allen key to loosen/tighten, but I bet something is very loose..

Mine were

question on the blinkers (I am assuming you are referring to turn signals and not hazards), does the dash light come on or is everything not working when you flip the turn signal switch? also do the hazards work?

Buy a can of brake cleaner, it is a spray can, and also buy a can of white lithium grease, also in a spray can.
Open the cargo door and spray the latch with the brake cleaner and clean the latch really well, becareful NOT to let it run down onto the paint.
Then lube the latch with the grease, also lube the door stop, that is the slider thing on the bottom of the door.
Pop the LR emblem off the door handle and spray silicon spray all around the door latch, open and close the door several times.
If you still have problems use a allen wrench to adjust the door striker, that is the rod that sticks out and the door latch latches too.
Loosen it, move it just a smidge, tighten it...trial and error until the door latches correctly.
The hood latch, clean and lube.
As for your turn signals, check all of your bulb sockets and bulbs.
Check each and every bulb for a good filement and check each and every bulb socket for corrosion.
If they are all looking good then you might just need a new turn signal switch.
