Default HELP! '98 Disco won't start

I have a 98 Disco I with 80k miles & it's been giving me major problems for the past few months.
The problem: it won't start. It sounds like it will almost turn over, but then dies. No codes.

Replaced the Crank Shaft Sensor, it ran fine for about 3 days -- then it slowly died while driving again w/the same symptoms. Then replaced the Fuel Pump (just the pump - used the old housing). After that it ran for 12 hours, then died again.

Recently Replaced:
Fuel Relay Switch
Inertia Switch
Fuel Filter
Plugs & Wires
Battery

Any trouble-shooting suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Love my Disco & would like to get her running again without spending another fortune at a mechanic.

Thanks!!

Turn the key on and listen for a hum in the cargo area. If no hum, pop the hood and look for a silver tube on the passenger side. There will be what looks like a valve stem for a tire. Take the cap off and push in the valve as if you are letting the air out of a tire. Be careful, as this should relieve fuel pressure. If fuel does not squirt out, I would start with the fuel filter, then move on to the pump. It can be accessed under the carpet in the cargo area.

replace your lucas ignition moduale with one from http://www.toddcosuspensions.com/discovery.html

look at replacing you distributor bits too.

Could the check engine light just not work? Should I try to see if there are codes even though the light isn't lit?

When you turn the key on does your check engine light come on? It should come on while it tests the circuits then go off if there are no codes. If you have a code reader plug it in and verify there are no codes.

Did it run at all after you replaced the battery? I'm thinking the alternator is your problem. It's not charging the battery and what little power you're getting is strictly from the battery. That's the only reason I could think of for what you're describing. Take your alternator to an auto parts place and have it tested.

Your 98 uses a distributorless ignition system so the parts jeffrudy linked to will do no good for your Disco.

Thanks AK Rover!

Yes, when I turn the ignition on, the service engine light does come on -- then goes off like normal.

Yes, it did run after the battery was replaced. But through all of the current repair and then trying to start the engine, the battery quickly drains. I will try having the alternator tested next.
