Default Help!! Brakes GONE! Wrecked Disco

Dont want to be overly dramatic, but Wife smashed my Disco 2 into her lexus in driveway due to Zero brakes. Before that I replaced rear calipers and flushed and changed all brake fluid with MB Dot 4 fluid. All brakes bled and pedal was firm. Truck sat for a month and now I get no pedal. I have never
seen a vehicle lose all pedal in this manner. I assume it has something to do with the three amigos since they are lit. Please give me somewhere to start. I am losing faith in Land rover and myself as a mechanic. Please!!!!!

Is there still fluid in the master cylinder? Any sign of leaks? Were they correctly bled?

Yes brakes bled by pumping until each caliper shot a solid stream of fluid. Fluid was above min line. When done. They worked perfectly until truck sat for a month, again I have never experienced total loss of brakes without a ruptured line. Also never owned a truck with This type of ABS.

Never had a DII so this is just from experience of being in them. The brakes still work fine with the 3 amigos lit up. Just no abs. Someone more experienced will chime in.

Generally if you have fluid in the system(not leaking out) and it's been bled but end up with no peddle it's the master cylinder that has gone bad

Oh and I moved your thread to the Disco II forum so it might get more looks and help

So if the reservoir is still full and the brakes have failed AFTER they were fine, then you probably lost the Master Cylinder. It would be completely worth it to beg borrow or steal an ABS code reader and check those 3 amigo's lights. Probably not related, but I would.

Hope that helps

Do you have ceramic brake pads?
I know when I stopped driving mine every day and it sat for a while it would take a few stops before the ceramic pads would grab.
I switched back to regular organic pads and it can sit around and still have brakes the next time I drive it.
My guess is the ceramics have a big problem with surface rust on the rotors.

Did you ever drive it after the brake work? Sometimes things are out of adjustment .....ask anyone that's worked in shop long enough and they'll have a story about this sort of thing happening after brake work. If they worked, you parked it, it sat for a month, and then failed I'd guess that you either lost your fluid or you didn't close/clean everything back up and got fluid on the rotors.

Check fluid level and top off if needed. See if the pedal will "pump up" with the engine off. If you can get a pedal, set the parking brake and try again.

I don't mean anything by this, but if you're in over your head on something like a brake failure....take it to a shop before someone gets hurt or killed.

Thanks for the input, But not ceramic and not a braking issue, but no pedal at all. cant even pump and get pressure, wondering if it is a vacuum issue and how can I test.

People on these forums always say that the brakes are pretty hard to bleed if you don't have a Hawkeye code reader of some similar reader. I always used my hawkeye so I can't comment on doing it in the conventional way, but could it be that you bled your brakes as you would do any other car and then as it sat for a month an air bubble made its way back up to the master cylinder, or something like that maybe?
