Default Help, have springs, but air supply unit is apprently still active!

For the last couple of months, there has been a whirring sound when ignition key is turned off....lasts a few seconds. The other day, it kept making the whirring sound and didn't stop. My husband found the air supply unit and it was hot to the touch...I think he had to disconnect the battery to make it stop....When someone (previous owner) changes from the air bags to springs, how do they by-pass the air supply unit, or disconnect it? Thanks in advance for any help.

Open hood. Remove one of these two black wires (C0811). One runs fuel pump (it has to be there). The other is the common ground for the SLS pump and valves which will run in the middle of the night to maintain a level vehicle in case Her Royal Highness should wish to make an emergency pedicure run. On page 68 of the circuits manual, bottom right.

The valves will actualy kill the battery after a while.

The reference to HRH is of course to the British Royal family, they sport about in a number of armoured Rovers (mpg in the single digits I bet).

Will this cause the light on the dash panel to stay on?

Thank you for your reply.

yes, you need someone with special equipment to change the computer from air ride to coil spring. Were are you located there may be someone in the area with hawkeye or other equipment that can shut it off for you

Pull the relay under the hood and unplug the switch in the cabin. You will have faults stores and lights on the dash until you can reprogram it to coil springs, but the pump should no longer run

Unplug the height sensors from the rear axle.
They are what tell the computer the height of the truck and if it sits to low the computer turns on the compressor.
There is one on each side.
You should not get any warning lights that way either as the computer wont know anything is wrong.

Maybe you will get a light. The sensors are three wires each (power, ground, and signal); and the RAVE says:

Failure modes
Failures are indicated by the SLS warning lamp in the bottom left corner of the instrument pack illuminating continuously in an amber colour. The following tables show the type of system failures and their effects on the system operation.
Failure Effect
Sensor output stuck at 5 V Vehicle will not level
Sensor output stuck at 0 V Vehicle will not level
Mechanical link between radius arm and sensor
broken

Seems like if unplugged, that would be zero volts, so a warning lamp should be on. However, perhaps some resistors could be attached to "fake" a normal reading for the sensor, and then, like Spike says, no light and no problems.
