Could it be a sticking thermostat? I dunno, maybe it's sticking and the pressure is building up behind it...then BLAMO! I have seen them develop rust issues and in consequently fail.

Thanks for all the input, the pressure test will have to wait until i get home. If i would've checked back on here before i left i'd probably have taken a different vehicle. The thermostat was changed in july along with the lower radiator hose set. Keepin' my fingers crossed for now, we're headed back towards FL tomorrow.
