Well that's a thought but I think I'll hold off its nice to have an extra hand at times! Haha well I guess I'll tear the cover back off tomorrow and double check everything and use Vaseline insted of assembly lube.

unfortunately; i think you are going to have to go back into the front cover again. Vaseline, assembly lube, oil it should not make a difference. It is only used to keep the oil pump from galling on start up. it is possible that the check valve in the pump assembly is hung up?

It's possible that something could be hung up or stuck open it was a used front cover mine had a crack where a cooler line goes. I'll check all that today at least the pan is already off. Thanks for your help its greatly appreciated!

Did you change the pump becuase you had no oil pressure?
Before I figured it out, I spent hours trying to get oil pressure cranking the engine.

The specialists in the UK just start the engine. oil pressure is easily attained at idle speed it seems - but not neccesarily at cranking speed.

I had a crack in my front cover so I decided to change the oil pump while I was there. I did start the engine and let it run for 10 to 20 seconds but it started getting loud so I shut her down. I'll check out the link now thanks!

Well I finally got oil pressure last night from another used front cover. I pulled the oil pump cover off the one that wouldn't build pressure and everything looked fine, its another rover mystery! So at last the truck is back on the road and I'm a pro at changing the oil pan and front cover! Thanks everyone for all the help!
