Default Help with ODBII Codes

I occasionally recieve the following two codes. They will only come on if I leave the truck idling for 5 minutes or more.

P0455 & P1415

If I clear them they will stay off for months and then come on again if the vehicle is left to idle for a long time.

My truck is a 2000 Discovery II SD with 103,000 miles. Runs great and averages 16 MPG mixed driving.

Any idea what I might need to address to resolve this?

Any help will be greatly appriciated.

Thanks,

Art

The 455 is a gross Evap, system leak, the 1415, I believe, is a fault code for your secondary air injection system
Either way, you would probably be better taking it to a good Rover mechanic to fix.

Thanks Mike,

Since I can go for months between the codes activating and the truck is running great, do you think this is something I need to fix immediately or will I be OK running the truck until funds allow me to have it taken care of?

Also, I was planning on going camping for the 4th and towing my pop-up camper through some pretty hilly roads (about a 120 mile trip one way).

Do you think I will be OK doing that before having it checked out?

Thanks,

Art

I get the 0455 when my gas cap isn't screwed on all the way. I need to replace it, but just haven't gotten around to it yet... I don't know about the other code!

Regards,

Hi Shane,

I replaced the gas cap about six months ago as I thought that might be what was triggering the code.

I can go for months with no codes after clearing them but if I leave the truck idling for say 5 min or longer the two codes will trigger the light will turn on.

Other than this issue the truck appears to run perfectly and my milage is always around 16 MPG in mixed driving.

Strange issue!

You will be OK with those code for quite awhile, they won't really have any effect on how your truck runs.

Hi Mike,

Well that is good news! At least I can go camping without worrying about it.

Any thoughts on what parts would need to be replaced to permanately eliminate those codes?

Any estimates on possible cost?
