Default Help please !

So here I am once again hoping I could find some help for my disco 2 …I bought the rover at least a year ago with the owner stating that it would crank when it wanted . I figured I could get it going so I bought it for a reasonable price / he almost gave it away … it looks practically new in and out and I could tell he took care of it by the looks of it . When I bought a new battery to install it fired right up for me . And I was pretty confused at why he sold it ?? Installed new plugs wires did the head gaskets and other etc gaskets . Trans flush oil change and was loving it !! Drove like a dream air worked and all !! Then one day all of a sudden came out side one morning and click ……. Tried again .. click …. Only one click by the fuse box and that’s all that’s all it was doing lights and radio came on but just one solid click when attempting to crank .. I sat there in silence … fast forward 1 week went outside and fired right up like nothing ever happened!?!! Happy again drove around town went and got some food and hopped back in and cranked right up the whole day and let it side again over night . Woke up that morning and tried to crank it then bam the infamous click is back .. this time I haven’t been lucky .. I tried taking out the interior fuse box and sprayed it with electrical cleaner swapped some fuses and still nothing … checked grounds and terminals and they look solid .. crank sensor wasn’t replaced as I figured it would cutoff on me if it was that and cool down and start up but it’s been sitting for days and nothing … I don’t know what it could be but I know if another week goes by and I try and start it will fire right up .. what is this ??? And it runs fine like nothing ever happened when it’s does run and fires up every single time for that amount of time it’s doing good then all of a sudden nothing ?? I’m happy I’m home every time it’s done this to me … help rover gods please ‘!!!

Starter is my bet, bad starter will draw hard and they can be flakey. But to be sure check your battery before you start it every single time to make sure you are charging and don't have parasitic draw. You could have a charging fault. With a dead cps the truck will turn over fine, it just won't start.

I agree on the starter. If nothing else remove all battery connections on both ends of each cable and clean/re-tighten to be safe. Just make sure they're disconnected at the battery before you disconnect the other ends of them. The positive will be live wire if you don't.

Whoops ! Forgot to add that I did swap out the starter for a new one ..I haven’t touched the CPS … also ran a wire to the battery to starter and it will turn on ..but when it does decide to crank it does not struggle at all to fire up . When I get home I’ll send a video to add to the thread

Starter engagement is a pretty simple circuit. I'd suspect ignition next.

Like the ignition switch ? Around key barrel ?
I seen that it was loose prior to purchase like someone had took it apart . I didn’t open up it up to inspect what they had done

As Ahab mentioned in his first post, disconnect and clean all the main battery wire connections between the battery and starter, including the main engine to body ground strap at the back of the engine (IIRC LH side, as viewed from the driver seat, from the head to the bulkhead), and battery negative to ground.

Default Turd rover

As shown in the video all the grounds seem to be intact as well as the strap ground . The positive terminal was super corroded and I cut and spliced back until I seen nomore corrosion fastened it up with new terminal and still the same click . What else is there to look for ? The crank sensor ? Also I need to test the battery but I’m sure it’s fine if it’s cranking when it wants ??
