Default Help- SLS rear air bag issue

2003 D2 with SLS-Mechanic raised my Dad's car on the lift without supporting the rear suspension.

I'm guessing he over extended the height sensors and now the rear will not raise back up.

What's the fix?

Also, what is the safe way to raise the car by the frame?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Abran, provided the rear shocks weren't removed you cannot over extend the SLS sensors. It sounds as though the sensors have been articulated into a place they normally don't get to so the contacts inside may be bad. Have you tried raising and lowering the truck on the button next to the HDC (don't forget you cannot do this with any of the doors open). If the compressor isn't running when you attemp this it sounds like a fault either in the SLS sensors or the compressor circuit.

Was the air suspension working OK before they lifted the truck on the lift? Have you tried disconnecting one end of the sensors and manoeuvring them to see whether the compressor kicks in? (it's immediately under the drivers door in a box fixed to the frame (chassis))

There are setting blocks needed if the SLS sensors are replaced or it can be done by exactly replicating the adjuster lengths against the original sensors.

The rover is not in my hands, so I am trying to walk the mechanic through it. Everything worked fine before the incident. It's just now it's low in the back.

Could try putting a floor jack under the trailer hitch and getting it close to normal ride height to see if that will make it happier. Then slowly lower it back down giving it time for the suspension to react and re inflate the bags.

Good news, it's an easy mistake to make when using the lift button.
