So I finally am wrapping up my head gasket job on my 2004 Disco II with supplemental air after a several weeks delay when I came across these two vacuum lines? Despite my notes and photos I can not figure out what theses are? The top photo is of the back left valve cover with a small black plastic tube with a hard bend (there is another next to it that comes up from the back of the engine and back down towards the transmission. The second image is another small black straight plastic tube attached to a plastic clip on the firewall to the right of the engine. Can anyone ID them and tell me what they need to hood up to? Thanks in advance!

 

They are air vent lines for your automatic tranny box and the other is for the front differential as is a third air vent line in your rear diff also.
They are much needed.

 

My first thought of the one located behind the left valve cover was that it was a breather tube so that is good to hear. With that, nothing to hook up obviously. The other straight one attached to the right side of the firewall; are you sure??? It seems like a very odd place for a vent and you would think it would also be hooked at the end to deter material from getting in. It really looks like something different from a vent tube.

 

it's a vent tube. seriously. if you really want confirmation, trace it back to its source.
