Well, not wanting to break the internet (and as such staying far away from these debates) I'll offer this up as merely a Public Service Announcement. I've quietly been a long time user of VR1 in all my cars for the reasons these blokes pointed out. No debates invited, but with over 400k miles on the engine in my 535 I'll let that fact stand on its own and continue using it. VR1 has been getting harder and harder to find, places like Autozone and Advance stopped carrying it a few years ago because it's unusable in newer cars. It's typically $35-$40 for a half case (6qts) but in the last few weeks Amazon has been having some crazy sales. For anyone else drinking the Kool-Aid, right now it's $24 for a 6pk, free ship with Prime at the link below. Not as cheap as the 15-40 Rotella, but a lot more zinc. I bought eight 6pks a couple weeks ago for $16.50/ea delivered, and that is cheaper than Rotella.

These guys know their stuff and sell some cool stuff. But I wish they would hit on temp. I won’t run 15w 40 in the winter.
