I was thinking about getting HID lights for my 2000 Discovery. It has 2003 lights in it now. I would probably only change the low beams. Has anyone switched to HID lights? What is a good kit to buy? How long is the life of the bulb?Is there much differance in brightness? I don't want to blind other drivers and constantly be flashed with their high beams. Also I do not want any wierd light colors.

I have seen the HID kits but cannot remember where.
HID's on low are about as bright as halogens on high, so you must adjust your beams lower to the ground.
The light is white, it looks likethe sun on a cloudless day. They last just as long as halogens but not sure how much longer or how much the bulbs cost.

 

HID lights put out different color light depending on the temperature of the bulb, rate in degrees Kelvin (K). Generally the hotter the bulb the closer to a true white you get. Both my parents' Mercedes have HID light that appear to have a bluish tint to them and gives very good definition in all driving conditions. They are also a lot brighter than your standard halogen bulbs.

 

the bulbs last much longer... range rovers have had them since 03, and ive never seen a bulb fail... several ignitors, but no bulbs. other benifits is that they use far less electricity then standard bulbs once theyre on, they are much better, but as spike said, youll want to aim them low and your high beams are going to really just turn into 'fill in' lights, to light up whats above the lows
