Default highway problems

There was a similar post earlier to this but here is my problem:

Ive been on the highway many times with my 96 disco. Recently on a trip while doin about 75 mph the vehicle started losing power for about 1-2 seconds. There was no pattern, sometiumes it would go back to back a few times, and other times it will just happen every once and a while. I usually cruise about 90 on the interstate and it would now lose power at that speed until today on the interstate it would do it basicly any time i was in overdrive. When it loses power the rpm's dont spike or drop its just like if i took my foot off the gas pedal. n e help is appreciated

It sounds like a possible vehicle speed sensor issue. I friend had this issue on his awhile back, and the VSS was the issue.

Does the speedo jump up and down?

Watch the tach closely (so you don't overspeed) while you do the following, but I think it will help eliminate it being a transmission issue and point again toward being VSS related:

Try moving into 3rd (I assume you have an automatic?) when this occurs. Probably will not be able to get much above 70MPH at this gear. If surging behavior continues, I would be even more suspicious of the VSS. If it disappears, I would be leaning toward the transmission or some other problem.

Another thought is to look at your coil I think there are five spade wires going to it. A bad connection here can cause difficulties starting and may lead to ignition/firing problems. Do you have trouble starting (or run rough) on humid days near freezing?

A couple of other questions:
Have you looked at the condition distributor cap and rotor?
When was the last time you replaced the plug wires and plugs?
How long were you driving before the behavior started (was the engine hot)?
Was it raining or very humid when the problem occurred?

thanks for all the help

it does need to have the plugs, wires, and cap changed just a general tune up.
it does it when its hot but there is no rhyme or reason to it, thats kidna why i was leaning away from the trnny bc it seems like if it was the tranny it would do it more consistantly. In georgia its always humid but it starts and runs fine just when im cruisin on the highway or cruisin around 50 around town. i will check that stuff out thugh, thanks

Hold on now. A 95' NAS Disco has A Lucas 14 CUX distributor ignition system. A 96' NAS Disco has A GEMS distributor-less ignition system. Who has what ???

no i havent changed the fuel filter i plan on it though when i tune it up, i have a 96, so u said it was distributorless? i saw the plug wires go to a point on the back of the engine compartment but didnt exactly climb up there, all the work ive been doin as been on the underside of the car, so ill let u know what happens with the tune up, on the way home from a trip yesterday about 90 mile drive it only did it once and then no more, so i dunno ill try the tune up and we will see.
