Default Hilarious Maaco experience

I saw a 2001 Discovery in the parking lot of a Maaco earlier this week, I’ve have to get my 2000 painted soon so I stopped in the Maaco office to inquire how much they were charging the owner of the Discovery. The paint on the one in the parking lot was completely gone, paint was almost completely gone on the hood and the roof was pretty close to the same condition. Mine, being white, doesn’t show how really bad it is until you are up close but it’s bad. Roof is almost completely gone, hood burned out and your hand will be white if you rub the top of a fender.

The customer and front desk area of this place was a complete wreck. Almost like it had been abandoned, they could have filmed an episode of the walking dead in this place. I inquired about the Discovery and what was getting painted. The guy at the desk was on a scale of 1-10 probably a 7 on the stoned out of his mind scale. He said they were painting the whole vehicle. I asked how much they were charging the customer and he said with a few second hesitation “$12,000”.

I started laughing and he half smiles and asked what was funny. I said that the book value ( I know they sell above ) on the Discovery was MAYBE $2000 and I didn’t believe anyone on earth would dump $12k into one for paint. A girl came out of no where and said “oh well we are running some deals right now, how much would you pay?” I laughed again and asked when it was going to be done and that I’d like to see the finished product.

I may not be capturing how absurd the whole scene was but before I left they asked for my number so I could take a look at it when they are done. I really hope they do as I would like to see what a $12k Maaco paint job looks like. Of course I will take some pictures and post them here. I have read few Maaco success stories but I have a feeling but I have a feeling that this may not be one.

Wow. I had my paint job done by a local Maaco shop and my experience was completely different. I had a fair amount of small body work issues that needed to be included. All in, I think I paid $3700 and that was for their higher end package. My roof was done a different color too.

The paint job turned out good - not great. A few imperfections and some dirt nibs but other than that it polished up nicely.

I also took it back for some warranty work and they took care of it without issue.

I think these shops are all independently owned.

Just looked at the google reviews on this particular MAACO. Maybe the worse reviews I’ve seen for any business. Customers calling the police, jobs taking months, cars painted the wrong color. Absolute mess.

I would rather be stabbed in both eyes with hot pokers while chained to the front of a bullet train in a baseball sized hail storm than ever go into a Maaco.
BTDT. Idiots.
