Hill descent light?
Hello everyone. I am getting just the Hill Descent Light coming on, at least twice in the past 2 weeks. Cycling the key does not clear it, but I have the old ABS Amigo unit from RSW Solutions, that I used to use before I broke down and bought a Nanocom. Clears it right away. I've done the B mod to the wiring harness for the 3 amigos, as well as rebuilt the shuttle valve with the kit from Falconworks in Tucson, AZ. no problems for a while. Only the HD light, no other concerns. "00 Disco w/ 315K miles. Thoughts?
Thanks to all!
Thanks to all!
First of all 315K miles is pretty amazing.
Oh boy. Do I know a hell of a lot about this HDC warning light. The HDC warning lamp is triggered by something called the HDC brake relay. It’s unfortunately not a replaceable relay, it’s built into the passenger fusebox which is under the drivers side, steering wheel area.
Any water leaked or leaking into your truck? USUALLY -- the issue is water ingress. Or failed solder joints maybe. I’d bet you have water ingress into that area which causes that fuse box to go bad. Usually the fuse box needs to be replaced (note 99-02 fuseboxes all interchange, and then 03-04 interchange, but you can’t put a 99-02 box in an 03-04 and vice versa)
Back in 2000, I bought a D2 that had this same issue. If you have the same issue, it will probably tell you way more than you ever wanted to know. I spent about 6 months during the pandemic chasing down what on earth could be the problem with mine and finally figured out it was just a bad fusebox, there was nothing I could do to fix it, other than replace the bloody fuse box with a good used one.
Here’s the best thread I wrote on it:

And another thread with some troubleshooting:

The HDC light has returned with a vengeance, so I'm looking at replacing the interior fuse block. I've searched Ebay for possible parts, but the vast majority of them are from a TD5, not gas trucks.
Is that a problem?
