Exclamation HOLY ****! And I thought I had it bad with a small hole in my chassis!

One of my FB rover buddies was talking to me about my chassis and he invited me to look at pictures of his D2..... puts a different prospective on things.

Never seen corrosion like this before on a modern vehicle. Had this been my truck id probably give up completely. I dont understand how some people can pick up something like this and NOT be completly over whelmed by it. Luckily this guy is a mechanic with Rover experience so he came up with a solution:

When I asked him how he did it this is what he said: "I made templates out of the good frame rail. Then cut them out of 1/8th inch plate and set to work with my welder and grinder! Its a permanent repair. That frame rail is stronger then the other side for sure!"

and Im bitching over a small hole hahaha makes me feel better for sure.

Wow. If anyone else has issues with the rear frame rotting. You can get replacement rear legs from Devon 4x4:

The problem I see here is that if it's THAT rusty, there's other issues in other places too. Check the seam under the passenger carpet where it starts to go up in the front. Or the battery tray area, or in the cowl under the hood....

I've got some rust on my frame and this summer planned to wirebrush and seal it up using this SEM product: SEM Products :: Rust-Seal

I've seen several DII's in a similar state. I've seen a number of later DII's ('03 & '04) with seams splitting on the rear rails. Yes, some where used to launch boats and had unusual exposure to salt water but some just lived their life up here in New England. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the quality of the steel and the quality of the welding on these truck is horrible.

DI's rust from the body down,
DII's rust from the chassis up.
