I would recommend cleaning it and neutralize the acid.

Here's my reco for the best hood blackout on the market for the D2 ... btw. Land Rover Discover 2 Hood Blackout
They have install instructions on there, which I followed to a T, and it's perfect. PS don't install in the sun.

I've done it twice and here are my tips.
Buy one that is pre-cut. The first one I did had the outline but the user had to cut it out of the big sheet.
For the side that is closest to the windshield don't wrap it under the hood but leave a little bit before the end of the hood.
I used a lot of soapy water.

I suck at applying decals, phone protectors, etc so took my hood blackout to a vinyl sign company and they just charged an hour of labor and it came out really nice. The installer did grumble that it was a bit difficult to work with compared to the material they typically utilize and suggested they could have given me better materials/fitment if I had them do the whole project so maybe something to check before you purchase a product.
