Default Hood liner / Insulation question

Right.

So, the under hood pad / insulation thing on MagPie is filthy and horrid -- is this something that can be cleaned or washed? Or just straight up removed and replaced with some other kind of thermal barrier?

You can kinda see all the mud etc in this pic, but it is quite a mess.

Someone here used radiant barrier(foil bubble wrap style), and it looked very good.
I would think it would cause the engine bay, and therefore the operating temps to rise.
However, the owner(can't remember their screen name, but I think it was a silver D2 with beadlock wheels) said there was no difference in temperature.
I don't know, but something to consider.

I have insulation on the underside of my hood. I have noticed no increase in engine temp afterwards.

The stuff I used really cut down on noise. It is noticeably quieter. You can see it in this photo.

Are the temps in the engine compartment higher? I don't know, but I doubt it.

I wonder what a vent or scoop would do for engine temps. I would love to add a hood scoop with forced air....

The under hood material is more than insulation, it is also a fire blanket. The plastic buttons that hold it to the underside of the hood are designed to melt away quickly in the case of an engine fire and allow the material to drop down to hopefully snuff the flames.

Be careful not to circumvent a factory safety measure when working in this area.

it has been too long for me to remember. Search Summit Racing, JEGS etc. and you will find some. I used a high temp adhesive and aluminum tape for the edges.

took the hood off, and had it upside down on my table. You’ll have to cut a few holes, like where the trim plugs go, and where the radiator cap is.

Take your time prefitting and use weights of some sort to get iit in place. I sprayed adhesive first on hood then on material.
