Well unfortunately for my wallet's sake it looks like I might have to put off lifting my truck for a little while longer. Driving home today I started to notice a little driveline vibration. I've only been driving the thing a single 120 mile trip every 2 weeks for about 6 months now so I haven't noticed up until now but it might have been going on for a while. I also heard a (cringe) slight grinding noise around 30 mph, sounded like it was coming from the t case. Didn't notice any fluids underneath and haven't had a chance to check the fluid levels yet. Anything else I should check or look into? Really hoping that I won't need a new [insert-expensive-rover-part-here]....

Check all of your driveline fluids before you drive any more...

Just went outside and looked around. All fluids under the hood look fine, with the exception of engine oil, which was just under the line, but due for a change anyway. Next problem- I can't get the filler plug off the front diff to check the level/quality of the fluid. It's on there way too tight. Any suggestions for getting it off?

 

is it the plastic one?

 

You are just going to have to use a bigger hammer it get it out.
Its not to tight, it just has not been taken out in a really long time.
Get a better angle with your rachet and then use a small hammer on the handle to loosen the fill plug.
Expect the rear diff and t-case to be the same way.
