Hoping for some honest advice

yup that would be leaking and causing you to over heat, they probably didnt clean it well enough when the slapped the new one in.
looks like there is room to change that freeze plug in place though, it would save you a lot of time and work

Room is plenty.
Let me ask you this... is it worth it to bring it to the shops attention, see if they will repair it, or am I better off just installing a new plug and hoping they didn't cracked the head when the chiseled out the original plug?

I've never personally seen a head that was cracked replace a freeze plug.
I would replace the freeze plug in place before removing the top end again.
clean the opening a little black RTV and tap the new one in,
let it dry and pressure test it before you put it back together.
JMHO

Thanks for that drowssap, I did just get off the phone with Headmasters... he is willing to repair it. However, he does NOT want me to take it apart. He must know I will require he supply gaskets and bolts. I'm currently calling around looking for a tow at his request. Problem is, it's a 40 minute drive from where the D2 is sitting. At best... I would like the shop to split the cost of the tow. I think I'm being reasonable.
I did laugh a bit with him.. he understands. So far... I'm not blowing my top.

Little update for anyone following,
Saturday AAA towed the D2 down to Saddleback for free, thanks to my wonderful mother-in-law. Left it with them, got compliments on how good it sounds and runs. Hopefully I get it back in the same condition I left it, sans the leaky freeze plugs.

Thought about it to be honest. Just didn't feel like dropping the coin on ARP.
I did call the shop today. They told me the new freeze plugs are in, but there is another leak. They are apparently going to repair it and let me know when it's done. Shop owner seems to be holding up his end of the deal. Says he won't let me take it home if it's leaking.
So far feeling better about having them reman the heads for me.
