You probably need to replace your head gasket.

Is there a detailed step-by-step guide on how to change a head gasket? I also will need to know what parts I need. Thank you.

Have you worked on engines before? If not, though this is the easier of overall engines to work on, replacing the head gasket correctly does rely on some decent mechanical skills.

I haven’t to this extent. But I would like to try because the alternative is junking the vehicle.

Just google head gasket repair for a Disco 2. There is exhaustive amounts of walkthroughs, videos, official Land Rover literature, etc. on the procedure. The most popular one is Atlantic British's video tutorial.

Go for it. As Brandon says watch the videos, like Atlantic British’s. It’s not a difficult job, just a long series of simple jobs. Keep everything well organized. If you have the interest I’m pretty sure you can do it.

X2 on the Atlantic British video
I'm sure they will also ship to APO address. The parts for our rigs are pretty easy to get. Almost any part supplier in the us that will ship to a military address will have the gasket. Take some time and look on the forum for the other things you should address while you have all the other stuff off to get to the head gasket.
