Hot smell after running
Listen up.
Not saying head gasket for the fun of it.
I lived the smell on my Discovery I.
It was antifreeze burning in the catalytic convertors.
I ruined a new set.
Changed the head gasket finally.
The 2nd set of cat convertors then "held".
And no codes ever since.
I don't make stuff up man.

The number of places that a Discovery can ooze oil that ends up on hot exhaust or engine components is equal to the number gallons of fuel purchased per week or month. Starting at the radiator area if fitted with an oil cooler, the front seal, which spins it out with help of the fan and sprays it some distance, the valve covers that need to be snugged up every oil change, crush washer that was never renewed on the oil pan, PCV system clogged up and making a little air pressure inside normally vented areas and forcing out oil, etc.
Point is that it may be anything from a twist of a socket problems to a 2 cent O ring to warped head.

After all this stressful talk of head gaskets blowing and leaks everywhere, I decided to have a little quality time with her. I did order Ultra-Gauge, that thing is pretty sweet.
As soon as you mention the word hot the conversation automatically generates to head gaskets, but unless know what temperatures are it could be anything. Hook up your gauge when you get it and see what your temps. are around town and on the open road.
Will post once I get it in the mail. Where is that company out of? They don't have much contact info on the site including their location. I'm in Indiana and wanted to see there where abouts so I could calculate shipping time..
Mine smells like old junk after it's been run for a while also. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the always weeping valve cover gaskets. The engine in mine was replaced about 23,000 miles ago and they're leaking already. I've snugged up the bolts I can access but it's still not enough. One of these days I'll pull the plenum off and replace the gaskets. I plan to use a little sealant and I'd like to swap out the bolts for studs and lock nuts too.
Get a good can of gunk.
Take it to a coin spray car wash.
Wait 10 mins.
spray the whole engine with a can or two of Gunk engine cleaner.
Use the hi pressure on soap mode.
All that grease will be gone.
Then you can actually see and trace the leaks.
Actually, I had a condition on the D1 - Savannah and drowsap are correct.
I had a drop of oil hitting the exhaust pipe once every 30 seconds.
That makes quite a stink.
Really bad.

They usually ship out of southern Oregon so figure 2 days to Indiana once they get it in mail. Probably 3 to 4 days total from time you ordered it until arrival. It is a awesome little device I'm sure you will like it.
Here's how I mounted it since I cheapened out on the mount: https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...47/#post339488
