No weird shifting issues due to frictional differences in the synthetic vs. conventional ATF?

Even though we just spoke...twice!... I'll answer this so the general forum sees it.

No, perfect shifting.

Default Update

Changed the filter and fluid over the weekend. I don't think this had ever been done in her 84,000 mile life, given the smell of the fluid and the muck collected on the magnet and the scum in the bottom of the pan.

Note: Do NOT neglect your transmission service! This is a stainless screen filter and needs to be done at the recommended intervals. The transmission performed fine before the service, so don't wait until yours acts up to do it.

Let hot drain for two hours. Refilled with Mobil 1 synthetic ATF. No odd shifting behavior...in fact, just like when I used this same ATF in the ZF tranny in my Benz, it shifts so smooth...like warm BUTTAH!!!

Default benefits of transmission fluid and filter change

Nice thread here. Changing the fluid and filter very soon. I'm on my high mileage list and that is up next. I plan on using the Valvoline Dex/Merc because its readily available. Here's my question... will I have a noticeable difference with my transmission and performance? Will it shift smoother up and down and even out any hard shifts or down-shifts? Thanks for any contributions...

Ok, does anyone add a bead of RTV on the pan gasket both sides? Just checking, I hate leaks.

Going to tackle it this weekend

I did on mine... not a bead for me but a light smear of black RTV all the way around on both sides of the gasket and a small glob at the recommended spots at the rear main bearing cap seams at the crucifix seals and at the seams up front where the front cover meets the block.
I've so far clocked about 2K since with no leaks... knock on wood.
I did the same on my valve cover gaskets and so for they are good too.
Some people say yes definitely and other say definitely not due to the possibility of it ending up in the engine in one of the oil ports. So other than the seams, I only smeared lightly. Besides, anything more then a light smear will squirt out when you torque it down and half of what squirts out will be to the inside.

Oh sorry abran, I just realized you were talking about the trans. Guess it's bout time for bed!
Me personally I wouldn't on the trans! only takes one very tiny foreign particle to throw an auto transmission into a tailspin with all of the small check valves and all. In theory the filter would catch anything floating around in there but Murphy don't do theories and just seems like a bad idea, although some people do it and get away with it. I guess some people are more brave than me when it comes to that.

I did, and it doesn't leak a bit. It used to leak like crazy.

Ok, 1 and 1. But Zack has the prestige of working at Rovers North, although he admits his repairs are suspect...
