Default How to check an engine mount

How can you tell an engine mount is bad? Can it cause a slight rough idle or rough running from being loose? I know it can cause a clunk.

Try to pry the engine up with a pry bar and see if the rubber is cracked.

can't speak from rover experience but I had an engine mount go on a 99 chevy blazer and the engine would shake around @ idle but smooth out as you hit the gas. I think I've read here about transmission mounts getting "soft" , since they are all connected that may be worth looking at ?

At your mileages, yours should be shot. If they are failing they will have a crack across the rubber area, even if not cracked, they do get soft and warn and will allow the engine vibration to transfer to the frame.

That's what I figured. Is changing them as simple as loosening the mounts, jacking up the engine and then replacing the mounts and then lowering it back down?

From looking at them culprits, I may be next in line to replace them.

One of mine looks really rough. I can get both mounts for $80 so I am going to do that next.
