Yes. I guess I am trying to justify running the engine with oil but no water pump or front accessories. Wondering if that front seal will leak. guessing not but sure would be nice to know before putting all that crap back on.

Put some rtv silicone, or even a bead of loctite around where the outer seal meets the cover if you're concerned about a gouge in the aluminum.
But, it's such a tight fit anyway, and given the thickness of the seal, I really wouldn't be concerned about it.

Good luck, don't worry or overthink things with these engines, or give them any excuse to eat more money, because they'll take as much as you want to throw at them.
Don't ask how I know that, lol
