Default Oil Pump Orientation????

Just getting ready to install the new oil pump but the old "cracked" one had a arrow that pointed towards the front of the vehicle once installed in the front engine cover. The new one I got from Atlantic British has no marks on it at all. I really don't think it matters which way it goes, but I want to know if anyone has done one and what they got to say.

Cheers!

I did my disco 1 oil pump without setting it a certain way. It just goes in the front cover... I did use some oil on it to "lube" it up so the first time I cranked it, it didn't go dry on me......

As I remember, I don't think it really made a difference which way it went. I packed mine with assembly lube and filled with gear oil.

I have an oil pump in my hand that I removed from my Disco. The outer gear rotor has a slight bevel on the after outer diameter looking at it from the front. If your replacement pump has this slight bevel, from the factory its orientation was facing the back side of the front cover or the cover plate that has the screws that holds it to the front cover.

Its a skill I've built up over the years. I carry an oil pump with me in hand at all times as I never know when I'll need it.

Default The Bevel in picture

Does it really matter which way it goes in, I have no Idea... This is the way it came out from the factory though.

Order it from Turner Engineering 4.6V8 range rover engine parts from Turner Engineering, flanged linered block castings etc in the UK and you'll save yourself about $250.00. I've bought one and it is the same as factory. The shipping is about 75$ and you'll have it at your door in two days. At least this is my experience from the states.

Snap.....I already ordered it from AB. I should have it here in Canada in about 2 days as well (that's what my experience has been like so far).
