Default how do i get these darn lug nuts off!?

I am trying to change my front brake pads on my 2001 Disco II, but i cant even get the lugs off. Is there a cover over the lugs i need to pop off first. They wiggle back and forth so i know they are not the lugs. I cant get them off though. anyone have any suggestions? i tried using a screw driver to pop them off. no luck.

The covers don't come off (except as a last resort). They are an assembly and come off together.

If your not able to budge the Lugs in order to remove them.... at least that's what I'm getting from your post... Then you need to grab a pipe that fits over your Lug nut wrench handle - making the wrench handle longer and easier to loosen those rusted-on lugs - and then try to loosen them. The longer the handle is, the less effort needed to loosen them. Once you have them off, use a wire brush to clean up the Hub Assembley and apply a small amount of grease to each screw making them easier to get on and off in the future.

Hope this helps

I use my breaker bar with a 22 mm 1/2 drive socket. After I loosen, I then use my drill with a socket bit to do the rest.

thanks to all that responded. i ended up bending my lug nut wrench and went to Autozone and purchased a socket to use. I already had a breaker bar, i also had to use the jack bar as an extension to break the lugs free. The brake pad were really easy to change out. Took me about 20 minutes once i had the tire off. thanks again.

OK, well, that was the problem to begin with. The lug wrench that comes with the truck is basically a one time use emergency tool, not something you use for service work.

I think land rover put it in there as a joke. You know, English humor like Monty Python.
