Im trying to undo a clamp in order to do a seafoam treatment (not this end of the tube), but am not familiar with this type of clamp. Is this a one time use clamp? How do i open it?

 

Yes "one time use" oetiker clamp . You need to clip/cut the pinch to release the tension... like this>

 

Just pop it with a flat head screw driver. Word of caution on the Seafoam snake oil. I have read many posts about Seafoam and the chaos it causes after a treatment. Codes being thrown, rough idle etc. I have no read one post about Seafoam making on of these trucks run better or more efficiently.

For some reason this forum is full of folks willing to dump that stuff in their motors, believe me this forum is an outlier in that regard. I am not sure but I have a feeling the Seafoam seed was planted in this forum by Disco Mike.

I would never put that stuff in my truck. Do some serious searching here on Seafoam before you let that stuff loose.

 

Wrong...easy to remove and reuse.


You can us a small thin bladed screw driver. Insert LH side and pry up a bit to right. It'll release clamp and can be reused by squeezing back together.

I have used Sea Foam in a 97 RR 4.6L HSE Vitesse that would leave a black cloud behind you whenever you attempted to pass anyone. After the treatment it no longer let out puffs of carbon. If done properly it DOES work.

Use the proper amount the can recommends into the intake, shut the engine off after it goes in, let it sit 10-15min, crank it up, and watch the clouds of white smoke as it runs. Now go drive it until the cloud of smoke dies down, and I always changed the oil afterwards. Worked great on me with zero codes, rough motor, or any issues. Then dump what is left into the gas tank and call it a day.

 

I tend to agree with 4x4; when used correctly then its fine. However, I've never used the kind that goes in the intake, only the gas treatment fuel injector cleaner. I honestly don't know if it does jack sh*t, but it gives me a little peace of mind. The intake stuff I know for a fact does remove some carbon fowling from the intake and valves as well as some from the pistons, and honestly I don't know of anything it could hurt as long as you inject it after any and all sensors.

 

The clamp can be removed as described and then reused. If I recall correctly you simply squeeze it together with pliers when reinstalling.

 

They key to doing it properly is taking your time and NOT stalling the motor out as you're pouring it into the intake!! Then let it sit, start it, and put the rest in the fuel tank.

Our engines can get very full of carbon deposits if the vehicle is driven like a grandma. I tend to drive em like I stole em vs driving like a grandma.

 

Small screwdriver in the clamp slot will pop it open. Squeeze together with pliers to re use. But I always replace them with screw type hose clamps just to make it easier the next time.

 

When I tried to remove that clamp on my 02 Kalahari the darn plastic nipple broke! I am currently running a metal nipple which does have a larger internal opening vs the plastic one, but I haven't seen any difference in the way my 02 D2 runs & no fault codes so I am leaving it in vs ordering an OEM plastic nipple.
