Default How does the IACV work?

I have done everything to try and fix my idle

The idle is PERFECT at 700 until the car warms up to operating temperature, and then it will bounce around and stall out

All I can think of is the IACV is not working so I was wondering

if the IACV goes bad does this sound like what it might do?

There are 4 wires going to it, does anyone know how each wire changes the iacv? and can I test it by doing anthing specific?

before I buy a new one I want to be sure it is the right thing to be replacing

Well the Rover shop manual states that if the GEMS engine will not idle then replace the IAC.
I have no real idea of how it works other than it regulates the amount of air going into the engine at idle.
