Default How on earth do you remove the oil filter?

Hey guys, I always let the oil change place do my oil, but I wanted to start doing it myself because I always change it on my Corvette. I tried to use the filter removal tool that I use for the Vette, but its way too small. I removed the plastic sheild and still couldnt get it off. Any tips? I'm a strong guy but that filter isnt budging! One more thing, are their one or 2 drain plugs? The oil doesnt seem to want to come out and the oil level is fine.

There is one drain plug.
Use a oil filter wrench to get the filter loose, the oil change places always put them on super tight so they wont come off and then they have to buy you a new engine.
You can throw that plastic shield in the recycling.

Use a strap wrench or an adjustable oil filter wrench, they have many different designs.

guess I just need to buy a new tool, no stores were open now lol. I have that tool for my other car, but as I said its too small in diameter. I still think its a really tight space. Any ideas on why the oil didnt seem to come out? I am on level ground, I was ready for a fast drip and really nothing came out. I figured I'd hop on here to see why before I tried anything. I know Rovers can have their own ways, and as I said prior, the oil level is fine. Maybe the engine needed to be warmer?

Are you sure you removed the correct drain plug?

You can drive a screw driver through the oil filter and twist it off if you have nothing else, a bit messy but it works. Remove your oil drain plug and then poke a screw driver in there as well to see if something is blocking the drain hole. The drain plug is on the sump and not near the oil filter just in case you took the wrong thing off.

Don't take this the wrong way but maybe do a bit more research before you start undoing random bolts on the block. First take off the plastic guard and throw it away next the drain bolt is generally on the oil pan which is generally on the bottom of the engine. So crawl under the truck and look directly under the engine you will find the drain bolt.

the sump drain bolt is the bolt nearest the ground in the middle of the underbelly of your truck.

Yip, look for the lowest point on the engine and you will find the oil drain plug. It's at least an arm's length back from the oil filter, behind the front axle.
