I've hit 95 in it before on the GPS, that was on the way down to Conclave last year

02 Disco, with 147k on it presently. 5 years ago drove Portland Oregon to Guaymas Mexico, high speed all the way. Lots of desert driving in really really hot country. Spent a couple of weeks banging around on the sea of Cortez and then high speed back to Portland. Couple of thousand miles plus I would think and no problems.

I bought this truck with 35k on it and it has been flawless. I've maintained it well but I've also used it a fair bit. It now needs to have the timing belt/oil pump cover gasket renewed (and will replace timing belt and oil pump while I'm in there) after which I'm hoping to get another 50k or so before I have to make any engine decisions.

I couldn't be happier with a vehicle than this rover and I've owned lots.

Maybe a 2004 range rover L322, but use the green stuff or strictly dexcool in the 04 D2, never mix.

180 degree t-stat is PEL500110

I regularly drive mine from Atlanta ga to Hattiesburg MS and never thought anything of it. As long as it is maintained I trust it.

If you join any other forums (VW, ford etc) you'll see the majority of posts someone asking about an issue just the same as here. All brands have their quirks but I have found the discovery to be just fine.

I drove a 2000 Discovery II yesterday around 350 miles, it was given to me for free and hadn't been driven in almost a year. Drove it another 40 miles to work today

7 hours actual driving a day. Couple of stops a day, snoozing etc. 10 days drive.

Couple of rest days, actually stop and see some stuff.

Call it two weeks.

Or am I that rusty?

I can see your trepidation.

Big box of spares. And an Internet connection!
Due to limited time I would not be making any sight seeing stops nor would i be taking an entire day off to rest. I would like to try for an 8 hour plan. 8 hours driving, 8 hours sleeping, 8 hours driving etc. The goal is to reach Seward AK ASAP so I can secure a more desirable position at the processor before most of the employees arrive and fill those positions. Dont want to be stuck doing a less desirable job because I got there late like I did last time I was up there. Id like to work the front dock, be outside all day in ****ty weather unloading the fish from the boats and hauling it into the processor. Use forklifts to transport fish totes, sort fish etc. Time is very important. Theres a tiny chance I can find someone interested in going with me, if that happens then we will arrive much sooner. One person sleeps while the other drives. But its not easy finding someone interested in tagging along.

I can see the attraction of doing 8 hours on and 8 off. Although with that plan you could do the trip in 6 days, it doesnt leave any wiggle room for issues, or if it just doesn't work out as you hoped.

Also, means you will be doing a good portion of the driving in the dark. Which isn't ideal in a truck you are not feeling 100% in.

I would be tempted to leave a few days earlier, and drive solely in day light. Hell, if you drove 12 hours a day you'd do it in 6 days anyway. but my experience of driving for 12 hours straight is that you don't want to repeat it too often.

Do vehicles actually need rest? As stupid a question as it sounds. Does a machine benefit from not running for a while? Fluids happier, or would they prefer to just carry on? Le Mans in a Disco anyone?

I bet you could find someone to come along. Are there other jobs going there? Maybe someone else off to work there?

Slightly envious of your trip.
