I would be tempted to leave a few days earlier, and drive solely in day light. Hell, if you drove 12 hours a day you'd do it in 6 days anyway. but my experience of driving for 12 hours straight is that you don't want to repeat it too often.

Do vehicles actually need rest? As stupid a question as it sounds. Does a machine benefit from not running for a while? Fluids happier, or would they prefer to just carry on? Le Mans in a Disco anyone?

I bet you could find someone to come along. Are there other jobs going there? Maybe someone else off to work there?

Slightly envious of your trip.

Im actively looking for a second driver to tag along if anybody is interested. As for working, well Seward is a couple hours from the nearest city (Anchorage) and its a big tourist port so many seasonal restaurants and things like that in Seward. I go there for work at the Icicle Seafoods processing plant. If anybody is interested in that field of work then I can arrange for that. There is always demand for hard working people. 16 hour shifts 7 days a week for a couple months or less until the Salmon season is done. Makes lots of money, cheap *** living ($6 per day includes everything) and make lots of money.

We have taken a bunch of road trips in the 99 Disco II .
I bought it in 2000 less than 10 k on it

Bowling Green Ky to Batopilas Copper Canyon Mexico and back at Christmas several years ago 7400 miles over 50 miles offroad

BG Ky. Out west from to San Diego up the coast of Ca. to Monterrey to Denver and back home 7200 miles. several miles offroad and North Rim off road

From BG to Monson Maine to Bar Harbor and back home probably 4k miles ??
Many trips offroad to find caves and places to rock climb

Bg to S. Florida numerous times 2k ea.

Another west trip to Colorado Utah and Arizona. 7000 miles

Just returned from S Florida in the 04 2600 Km ( didn't catch many fish)

Plus more.

All that said I know a bit about long hauls in a Landy.
Here a a few tips
If your drive shaft is stock ( no grease fittings) Replace it Immediately with one that can be greased.
In the glove box put a couple of relays like those under the hood for spares.
Some tail light bulbs. I don't expect your daughter to change them, How ever sometime these are hard to find unless you go to a dealer that will charge you too much. ( see Atlantic British , Rovers North, Lucky 8, BP utah, Etc. for parts )
Monitor coolant temperature with Ultra gauge or Elm 327 ( Amazon) + Android app.
Change oil every 3-4 k even while on the road.

I have never been stranded on the road except in Creel Mexico. It wouldn't start . Needed a starter relay. After the first west trip I needed a main engine seal. Had a small leak.

I've done 2 head gasket jobs on the 99 One was It overheated. The other not sure why . It now has 283000 miles on it and I drive it to work everyday 36 miles one way. Starting to need an exhaust replacement and the radio stopped working the other day.

If you don't buy the one with 40 k let me know I want it

If you maintain them and do the right things it will treat you well. But it will need maintenance from time to time

Good luck
