Default How long do discos really last?

Looking at a few discos and want to know what is considered high mileage. For example, an xj jeep, if well taken care of, can easily break 300k (that 4.0L inline 6 is a monster!!!) just wondering if it's the same with disco.

"I've had the same broom for 15 years. It's had 6 heads and 4 handles." Trigger.

As long as you want it to.

These aren't 300k vehicles. Not anywhere close. I am sure a few will offer will offer some anecdotal evidence to the contrary but that fact remains that if you are looking for a vehicle that will not require much more than serious attention to regular service intervals save yourself some frustration and look elsewhere.

My DII has 150k and I consider that high. I wouldn't dream of buying one with over 100k.

Go on over to the High Mileage portion of the forums. You'll find several with over 200k. You WILL have to work on it, and it almost definitely will NOT make it to 3000k on the factory emgone/trans, but over 200k is plenty possible with the right care. Meaning a lot of care. Constant preventative maintenence and occasional repairs.

I would buy one over 100k. Actually, I did, I bought mine at 120k. It's now at 140k and I expect it to pass 200k. Actually, my current estimate is 230k before the engine goes. The transmission will go before that, but I've got an extra auto and I'm lining up parts to drop in a T5 manual.

It's no jeep. Personally, I think it's better off road, but its not nearly as reliable. You will have to work on it plenty, but you will fall in love with it and it will become a passion. A passion in the same way that people are passionate about cocaine.

Go read the "What are the most common faults," thread posted by Off-roadfrance and see what you think then. I bought a disco2 with 90k on odometer a few months ago and I have been turning my wrenches and everyone else's on it weekly since the first day I got it. If I hadn't totaled my Toyota 4Runner back in 2011 it maybe would need a new battery by now and that's it. But I still like this Land Rover more.

How long is a piece of string?

It depends what life it's led before you aquire it and how well you service it and look after it, it's the same for any vehicle. Personally I prefer diesels and expect to see 200K+ on my truck before any serious rebuild problems. It also depends on what you use it for, if it's a daily driver with 10% mild offroad it'll last well but if it's used for rock crawling and offroad without exception it'll probably have some problems.

I bought my DII at 160k, I'm currently at 165k and don't see any major problems with it. Its my daily driver (well when I do drive) and I'm hoping to get it over 200k.

A 4L Jeep engine may last 300k (may???) but the new generation of V6 will not live to half that much. Don't take my word on these, ask a Jeep tech and they will give you an ear full. A Disco may last that long but it will require some discipline maintenance and good driving habits, besides, have you driving a Jeep for more than 100 miles in one day?. I have owned both and in all honesty I like Jeeps but it will not compare of how capable and comfortable a Disco is and for that there is a price to pay.

Dude, we are not ready for that level of philosophical thought in this forum, as much as I appreciate what you had to say.
