Bummer, Charlie! Go ahead and throw us a picture of however you make it fit. Might be useful for anyone else who wants to use "alternate" filter sizes. Haha

What's up?
So I'm real interested in doing a cold air intake on my disco 2.... I see how you engineered yours and gonna probably follow your specs. Obviously now the same parts probably army on eBay anymore but what is the brand of your poly intake duct? Also when you posted you were at 14000, any issues with MAF? And did you use anything special for the throttle body inlet?

Hey AF, just saw that post. No specific brand, just order the cheapest turbo couplings you can get that have a 3.25" inlet and outlet.

I was at 140k when I posted, but I was at 131k when I intalled the filter and I'm at 142k now. No issues with the MAF. The only special thing I added was the one nipple for the... well, whatever the silver deallio that connects to the intake and sits on top of the manifold is. Anywho, nothing special other than what you can see in the write up in the first post.

Made an intake today. Used the stock air box with K&N filter. My apologies to Discomike.

i am going to redo the lower coupling. Didn't get it in at the right angle.

Nice! For a time I chewed on the idea of using the stock box to retain factory snorkel capability, but it wouldn't have helped me because the flex coupler was shot.

As for cleaning, I just blow mine from the inside with compressed air whenever it looks like it's getting dirty. As far as reoiling, id go with whatever K&N recommends. I actually haven't reoiled mine, though I probably should at this point. I'd probably blow it with compressed air after oiling, too, to minimize oil contact with the MAF sensor wire.

Hey everyone! Just wanted to post an update to this. I finally ended up extending my intake into a snorkel using the same idea. I used more couplings and 3-1/4" aluminum pipe. I also ended up moving my power steering reservoir to the factory air box location. I drilled and re-welded the mount but the same effect can be achieved by drilling the factory welds and using self tapping screws. I also replaced the 6" piece of tube with the MAF sensor itself, then ran pipe out the quarter panel using (I think) a 3-1/2" metal hole saw. I did have to temporarily remove the quarter panel so I could attach the band clamp inside the fender. I also drilled three 1/2" holes in the tube running up the fender and used metal roofing screws to attach them to the fender. That way the screw holes are waterproof. I plugged the holes I drilled with 1/2" hole plugs and a touch of RTV on the lip of them. I just have the side running up the windshield zip tied right now, but I plan to fab up some kind of solid mount to hold it in place and away from the A pillar a little.

For the filter, I of course smacked it right on top of the snorkel since K&N doesn't make an in-line box for this specific filter. I made a rain cover out of a food container I found on Amazon which I just bolted through the polyurethane end of the filter with a fender washer. I specifically used this one and then painted it.

Here's a picture. I apologize, it's mirror image. I am still going to add a drycharger over the filter for more water and sand resistance, but for now this is working perfect. I noticed no difference in power but there was a slight increase in intake sound since it's no longer hidden under the hood.

I don't know. I think Alex_M needs to change his username to discomcgyver.

I mean this as a compliment!
