Default How to Remove Diff Breather Tube?

I was able to remove the breather tube from the nipple on the rear diff axle and traced it to a black plastic union with green caps on the two ends of that union. How do I disconnect the breather from this union? To check if the breather is blocked do I only need to check the portion that goes from the diff to the union? Or do I need to worry about the "top" part of the breather? It goes into somewhere I can't see at all.

Thanks.
Alan

No problem, I cant help you as I have not seen a '03 axle breather.
On a DI it is a 90 degree brass nipple that just screws into the axle housing.

Thanks Spike. I've already disconnected the axle housing side. It's the "other" end that I'm not sure. Anyone?

Why are you wanting to remove the tube anyway?

It's in his post Mike:

"To check if the breather is blocked"

It sounds like someone installed extra long wading breathers, that likely run up into the engine compartment.

Have a look at this waders install page maybe that will help.

I found out the green caps were protective covers for the union. I used a flat blade screwdriver to pry one out and underneath is the red spring-loaded part I expected to find. Pressed on the red part and the tubing came right out.
