For the record, the lugs are 27.2mm, so even shops with 27mm sockets are bound to screw them up if they use an impact wrench. It's best to take your own proper wrench with you, loosen each nut yourself before letting them drive it in and put it on the lift and INSIST they not use an impact wrench no matter how much they try to insist. If they refuse, then tell em "No Thanx, I'm headed to another shop". Those damn lugs are a real pain in the ****...

My 6 sided 27mm and 1 1/16" deep impact sockets fit fine and no damage is done with an impact (on the undamaged nuts). I'm not sure how they bugger up the besides using a shallow socket that is too big or a 12 point impact socket. Or if they are already damaged and they have to hammer the socket on or off. Bottom line though is that a proper impact socket and wrench will not damage the lug nuts any more than a breaker bar and a socket will.

I have one of these lug nut covers that have been rounded off and some of the other suggestions have not worked. Does anyone have any good ideas for getting a lug nut cap off of a lug nut that is still on the wheel? I've used a flat head screwdriver to punch a center hole but I don't have a Dremel tool to cut the rest of the metal off...

Thanks.

I had a few lug nuts on my DII that there was no way I was going to fit any 6 pnt socket on Mertic or standard. I tried a 12 pnt metric socket (I think it was 27mm) and it fit great and took the nut right off no problem.
