@blcp86 do you have xp with alpine stereos? Would you recommend them?
Sorry for being off topic.

I'm looking for a good stereo and my vote will be on the Alpine.

Now I was trying to gather as much info as possible but most review blogs are junk.
I mean they are hyping and when I've checked out some actual customer reviews the
difference is huge.

Along with my journey in review land I came across a different site. It seems to be the real deal. I mean it harshly criticizes the flaws that each brand has. This has put me on the fence. For example there's a review about Alpine w650 stereo. I was eyeing this headunit.

How bad is that slow startup? Does it take 20s to boot up? What about the value for the money?

Any insights are highly appreciated

I believe the D2 needs a single-DIN setup. The w650 that you linked is a double-DIN system that won't fit in the hole in the dash without further modification.

The hole in the dash is actually 1.5 Din. Hardly any head units are made in that size. Most that go with a new head unit use a 1 din with a small piece of trim to hide the extra space.

Others use an LCD type solution which you can find by searching this site.

Default Stereo Upgrade!!!

I'm about to do a near total stereo system tear out on a DiscoII The vehicle is my best friends and we're just going at it with only our certainly outdated knowledge base! We've done systems before back in our haydays, but we're in our 40's now. We did his '74 Charger a couple years ago. We had grand ideas, but when the time came we basically slapped it together. It sounds great. Installation..... so-so. I mean... He just wanted tunes. So there's no real build out. Wires are secured but still visible in the trunk.
WIth the DiscoII we're going about this much more professionally. I've done the research on this beautiful vehicle for the install. This is going to be bad a**! FYI His set up is the Alpine H/U with CD changer and pillar tweets in front.

We will be installing:
Pioneer AVX-3500NEX single Din
Carrozeria (Pioneer) Back up Cam
Audison Forza AP8.9bit DSP Amp (Door speakers & Trunk Speakers)
Audison AP1D Monoblock Amp for the sub
Audison DRC MP (Gain control/Preset)
1 - JL Audio 12TW3
2 - JL Audio C1-400x (Coaxials for trunk door)
2 - JL Audio C3-600 (Separates for doors)
There's also distribution blocks, wires, and a bunch of other miscellaneous items included.

Topping it off... I'll be updating and wiring up the headrest TVs 1 isn't functioning. I haven't looked into the issue yet. The plan is to update the DVD player so the kids can have a remote and BT headphones. TVs will also have dual inputs. So, if Dad wants to make the kiddos watch something from the H/U he will have a selector to do so.

Wish us luck!
