HSE?? Title Screwed up or typical Land Rover Thing
Hi guys,
I am in urgent need of advise with something which confuses me about a land rover offer i just got. Disco II 2003 HSE. If I do a VIN check it turns out as SE, the owner claim is it a HSE7 (7 Seats and all the other extras). On the sode of the front fender it says SE7.
Shouldn't the title state HSE7 or at least SE7?
I am confused. Maybe some of you guys own a HSE and can tell me what is supposed to be showing.
Thanks in advance!
Phil

I don't think the VIN will specifically designate the option and trim type. For example, this is mine:
SAL Manufacturer code: Land Rover
T Model: NAS Discovery Series II
Y Model specification: 49 state emissions, 100in
1 Body type: 5-door, closed (station wagon, hard top)
6 Engine type: 4.6 litre V8 petrol
4 Steering, transmission, GVW: Left-hand drive (LHD), 4-speed, automatic, 6000lb
6 Checksum code: checks out ok
3 Model year: 2003
A Assembly location: Solihull, UK
787369 Serial number
You mentioned the decal on the fender shows SE7.
- The factory designation for the 2003 and 2004 Discos starting from highest option package are: "HSE7" (7 seater with air suspension and active stability control), HSE (five seater with air suspension and active stability), SE7 (five seater with coiled springs and higher capacity rear coils to support the addition weight), SE (five seater with coiled springs) and S7 and S (e.g., vinyl seats instead of leather seat, ocassionally no sunroofs, fog lamps, etc).
- The "H" in the HSE7 or HSE denotes the highest level trim option which typically includes the air suspension and electronic active stability (EAS). You can check if see if this vehicle has the latter two options. Some owners have been known to replace the problematic air suspension with coiled springs. It could have started out as an "HSE7" and the previous owner took out the "H" decal to denote the new coiled springschange.
If you do indeed have the airbag suspension, you can buy a decal to add back the "H". Here is an example for an LR3, but you can use it for the Disco:
Badge HSE Tail Door Brunel Metallic (Genuine Part # DAM500520LQV ) - Land Rover trim and decals from Atlantic British
