Default I just pinned the cylinder sleeves today.

The dreaded tick is gone.
My first attempt was to pull the engine, do all the gaskets and replace tappets and push rods. Tick stayed.
Second I pinned one cylinder which I was sure was making the noise. Some of noise went away, but not all.
More money later, pinned the rest of them. The tick is gone. I will run it around for a few days and see if comes back. I hope not at this point and $$$.

Now on to why my temperature gauge not working most the time. On the code reader, that indicator is working. The one to the gauge is different and must be wiring.
The other issues is the roof liner in the vehicle, the radio.

Then onto find a way to get use out of the air compressor and accumulator for airing tires and such. The LR RR P38A I have has had the spring conversion done before I bought it.

I did nothing to the heads at this point. I have been driving it for the last few days and it runs much better. The timing chain being stretched had to cause the cam timing to be retarded some. It has a lot more snap to it after the chain replacement

Default The ticking is gone! Pinned all the sleeves.

I did not have to do any work to the heads. I did replace the gasket and the valve spring seals for good measure when I did the gaskets.
New gaskets and seals took care of leaks.
New push rods and tappets...new oil pump,...before I knew the common issue was sleeves.
Pinned sleeves took care of tick.
New radiator, thermostat, radiator cap (reservoir cap) and hoses. Strange coolant design.
I image the previous owner probably overheated the engine at some point and this lead to the sleeves slipping and subsequent issues.
Some new sensors and more attentive care in operation and maintenance are in order.
Some headliner and cosmetics are in order...now to get my wife to not be mad at the Rover is something I need to work on.
I am hoping for some long term reliability and some road trips with the Rover.
