Hey Dave just thought I would answer you before i hit the bed, so here is my best answer for you, the NVE-N852A is the "new" version of the N851A and utilizes Ai-Net (alpines new communication system) I do not believe the 851 used Ai-Net I think it just used its own monitor. Alpine does make a "standalone" adapter for that unit I am pretty sure its the KCE-021N (I used to do Alpine nav systems for fleet vehicles so I had to interchange these old systems) that will give you the RCA connectors to go into the back of your deck but it wont give you control(you will need to use the remote that comes with it), I would actually suggest thinking about the portable Blackbird and a dock, I believe you could mount the dock with an external antenna in the glove box and use Ai-Net to have full control with your touchscreen(I believe the dock works that way, but you will have to check it out) may not be quite as accurate as the permanent mounted units but it will also give you the ability to use it in another vehicle for a pretty reasonable price.

Last Blackbird I sold was the first model for about $400 I think and the docks were around $200 (you could probably find them together for around $5-600 or so
