Default I have 2 question in the middle of a HG job.

So it is my lucky turn to replace the head gasket in my 03 disco II with 116,000 miles on it. When i removed the passenger side head i noticed a plastic hose that was attached to the back of the head. What is it and should the one next to it be broken after the curve? Could it be a vent hose??

Second question is i took off the head and the #2 cylinder valves where black and wet looking. The gasket looked in great shape could the head be cracked?
