Yep, first things I am gonna check when I get to it. Between work and th massive snow storm (.5" on ground) I couldn't get outside to play with her!

Is it your daily driver?

If not, you might as well pull the motor and check for any slipped sleaves. An over heat does not necessarily mean a toast engine. But if it dies because of it than he likely toasted the **** out of that motor.

If the block is still good you can start rebuilding everything. New oil pump gears, timing chain, valve job, beef up the cam if you want to.

With 150,000 miles it's close enough to a rebuild anyway.

Unfortunately been swamped with work and bad weather to go out and play with her.

I am going to drain and check the inspect the fluids and then get a computer (as soon as I figure out exactly what Autocom and software to buy) to monitor everything live. This way I can figure out what I can.

If everything checks out keeps checking out, I will probably do some mods to help protect the engine. Good thing about these is if I blow the engine after getting done with these mods, I can just swap them to the new engine and I have no losses.

Mods to do:
Source a oil cooler and install
180 thermostat
Possibly do the "inline thermostat" mod. (as soon as I figure out what exactly that is.

Then I will do whatever else I can to try and minimize over heating. Check the fan clutch, inspect all cooling lines/system and replace anything suspect, maybe install some supplemental electric fans.

Any suggestions, advice or ideas in the event the old engine checks out and I try to keep it going?

 

Thanks for the thought, but if I am going to tear it down that far, I might as well send the block to a shop and have new top hats installed, which might not be a bad idea. Wonder how much that would cost?
