If we are right the fluid will likely tell the tale in as it glitters into the drain pan.

Oh and if you have any pictures or videos of the trails post them up would love to see it

Drain the transfer and pull the cover off to have a look in there.

okay so that seems to be the plan of action right now : drain TC fluid, check for FOD.

I was perusing and saw that cross-bar upgrades are out there, and so I hope that could be the culprit. The jerky throttle over the culvert pipe really over strained the TC.

The park pawl screech showed up concurrently with the TC going out. But from what it looks like, and what yall are telling me, that would be a result of something happening in the TC.

Or don't be surprised if maybe a drop of TC fluid comes out. I've seen my fair share of blown TC's due to no fluid in them.

I check my TC Fluid every oil change and top it off. I will need to drop the transmission to fix the leak and the leaky rear main seal as well. Not looking forward to it!

Is it just me, or is getting to that TC fill plug a royal PIA. I used a 6" 1/2 extension onto a beefy breaker bar, but didn't get a good seat on the fill plug. So i tried a swivel head, still couldn't get it seated. That dang parking brake drum is just so in the way, and it's keeling my socket wrench by like 15 degrees to the side.

I'm afraid if I keep at it long enough, I'm going to strip the darn thing and I really wouldn't want that.

Not just you. Keep trying. I use a 1/2' breaker and pound it in.

If no one does regular maintenance on their D2 the TC can certainly run dry over time. We all know they seep 70/90w, 80/90w, or 85/140w gear oil (some more than others) and if it's not checked it can certainly run low on gear oil, and burn up the bearings inside the TC not to mention get extremely hot due to lack of oil cooling the TC.

I've replaced several TC's on D2's that had maybe a drop or two in them..... They DO NOT take kindly to being run low on fluid or without anything.

I bought an 04 D2 once that ran and drove excellent, but it had a lot of gear whine. Of coarse I went into action on changing all the fluids and when I went to drain the TC I was lucky if 2 cups of the darkest gear oil I've ever seen came out! I filled it up with 80/90w gear oil, and expected to drive it and find the TC seeping gear oil from everywhere, but nope it just seeped the usual amount from the lower service cover. I'm guessing it had NEVER been checked since it was new!

On my personal D2's I check it at least twice a year, and change it once a year (especially if I go off road and put some serious strain on the TC).
