Default I need a jack or two..

Well my LR bottle jack decided it was being worked too hard and it killed itself. Now I need another one. 3 actually. 1 for myself, the 97 DI, and the 04 G4 I am working on. I have a regular jack and jack stands for when working on the drive way but I/We need something to repair a flat or swap tires while on the road.

I am afraid of buying a used LR jack not knowing how much longer they will last. And I am not to sure of the design of other jacks that don't have the "\__/" shape at the top.

While looking around I found this. What do you all think about that?

it has a weird top, like it would only work good on an axle

Well seeing how I don't even solder anything I wouldn't attempt welding this. I can't make it.

BUT since the adapter is only $24 dollars and a fully welded adapter on a 4ton jack is $60, I will buy the $60 jack. The only bottle Jacks sold down here are $40 at the cheapest for a 2 ton jack.

I could get 4 ton jack on harbor freight -- $12.99
Shipping to freight forwarder -- $10
Adapter -- $24
Pick up at freight forwarder -- $10
Pay someone to weld that -- $30???? I have no idea

Total would be $86. plus gas and time going to metal shop. Plus the metal shop i have dealt with screwed me on another fabricating job.

this should work fine on the radius arms too right?

it's a jack... a piece of wood does the same damn thing as that metal deal. KISS. keep it simple stupid.

not calling you stupid it's just how the saying goes.

I agree with simplicity. But unless i have another LR bottle jack i wouldn't feel safe using this alone

on the radius arms nor axle fearing it might slip off. I live on an island and my daily route are on roads with slight inclines where I would hate to try and change a tire on. I have a regular floor jack for my driveway work but I need something that can be used on the road in an emergency. I don't want to carry a floor jack with me. Right?

Unless someone has a brand new LR bottle jack they are willing to sell me for $70 (including shipping), Swag off road's jack is a good alternative. I don't have any metal bumpers nor sliders to use a hi-lift jack.

Again...this is ideal for my environment. if I lived in back in Florida i may have gone the "wood" route since everything is flat in Tampa.

=)

Just a FYI...I bought a bottle jack from Harbor Freight...6 ton...used it on the Di just once and it blew all the seals...jack went to the scrap yard with my trailer load of scrap steel...

That modified jack wont fit in the jack storage area.
You dont want it laying unsecured in the back of the truck, if you get into a accident it will kill you if it hits you.

If your unsure about the safety of "other" bottle jacks. Go to an industrial supply place and check into a bottle jack that recommended for use under a house/trailer. For pier work. Not sure what's available to you where you are - just an idea.

My concern is about the safety of the small diameter of this part in green

jack.jpg?t=1248441506

versus the "\__/" shape of the standard LR jack when used in an emergency situation where I don't have a floor jack or high-lift jack and when not on a level ground.

whichever new jack I get will be stored in one of the storage bins in the back. I think the engine heat shortens the life of bottle jacks.

Get a jack for a Ford F-250, I was looking at the jack in my work van today when I was loading it this morning and you popped into my head (scary I know) and that jack has the same type of "U" on top only not as deep and the jack is not hydrulic it is mechanical but it will lift that much weight and it will be DIRT CHEAP at a bone yard.
Just make sure that you get the jack handle too.
