DAH DAH DAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, DA DA!!!! I did it!!! I thought a lot about what you guys said about this being a job I should farm out, and it was in fact beyond my skill-set (way beyond) but I want to be like you guys someday and maybe answer a damn question every now and then instead of bugging ya all with ten questions a day. So I said "screw it" and went for it. Now I have something to add.

None of the PDF's and web-pages I have seen have suggested torching the crap out of the centering ball before trying to slide hammer it. If you do this rebuild, or have and are suggesting ideas on making it easier to others, consider suggesting torching the crap out of any stuck centering ball. I have heard that some come out easy, but mine was practically fused to the yoke thingie. I heated what was left of it (I ground out the actual ball and dremmiled parts of the metal that holds the ball) but once I tourched it, it popped out without to much trouble. Just a couple of smacks with a hammer and chisle. I believe that if I would have tourched the outside while the whole centering ball bearing was still in there, it would have come out without all the headache and heart break.

Now I'm rollin, rollin, rollin in my sweet, sweet, sweet Rover with no worries of a propshaft blowing up under me.

Thanks to all of you. You guys are a God send.

Most excellent and congratulations on a job few outside of the LR community would even attempt.

Thanks and yes it does feel good. I drove home last night with a huge, biggo smile. I have to be careful though. Now I think I could do a head gasket or something. Have to remember that this Rover was put in my life to keep me humble! One step at a time. Like figuring out how the new OBDII scanner I got works. I'm looking at the MAF and O2 voltages, but have no clue what they mean. But that's where you guys come in right? One step at a time and eventually I will be rollin with no CEL...I hope.

If you can do that you can do the head gaskets.

Thumbs up

CONGRATS !!!!! There's nothing better ( well ALMOST nothing) than the feeling of accomplishment and saving money by doing it yourself. What's your next project ?

Next project is....will be posted soon. I got a scanner and need to isolate P0171 abd P0174 (lean on both banks). I can't afford both O2's and a MAF both so hopefully someone can tell me how to interpet live data voltages. On to post the thread now. Thanks agaon. What a cool group to be a part of. I think I have the only Disco in Toledo so I am very lucky to have ya all.

Good, Now go buy a new driveshaft cause it's not good to torch a double cadran housing. Tada da KABOUM bitchslap,bitchslap,bitchslap.... tranny out. That'll turn your smile upside down

Actually, I envy you for tackling a job that actually intimidated me. Congrats!!!
