Or you could learn to drive the vehicle offroad first and install some front protection to prevent damage to the diff and the tie rods for alot cheaper.

Then you don't have to modify the vehicle and face the consequence of more damage cause you can't drive the vehicle in the first place.

hey hilltopper, I JUST got done with having new tires(18"rims) and a 2" lift installed. I have done the front drive shaft and head gaskets and it has given me peace of mind, glad I got all the kinks worked ou before I lifted it. As for options I went with RTE 2" springs, the ride is greatly improved and I got the exact look I was going for. I purchased them when they were still $350 for the front and back. I just checked rovertymes site and the now charge $350 for the front set and another $350 for the back. They do have some complete set ups ( All 4 springs and 4 shocks) for $650 or so. As for tires I went with Firestone Destination AT"s 255/70 r18's. They measure 32.1". I worked out a deal with the local Firestone and got them for $650 out the door ( mounted, balanced and installed). They were going to be $758 but when I talked to the shop manager and told him I can get them shipped to my door for $650 from tirerack he offered me the deal on the spot. Those guys HATE losing business to online retailers. Hope this helps, good luck.

What is the ideal tire size for the 18" rims? On treadwright.com they have a 285-65-18 as the only 18" tire

Sorry bsnapp I thought hilltopper was the original poster. I really like the look of the 255/70 r18. they are no wider than the stock tires and you wil not have as many rubbing issues.

Frank, can you post up a picture of your rig with the lift/tires? I would be interested in seeing the 255/70, as most guys are going for the 265's these days. I personally like the tall skinnies, gives it kind of an old school look. Gracias in advance

True, but with 97K, if they haven't been getting greased, they are probably toast....
