Default Ignition warning light

warning light comes on after 20 30 minutes from cold- yesterday it went off several times for 2 - 5 minute intervals then stayed on. Wondering if diodes are failing? any other ideas?

What is the ignition warning light. What does it look like? Do you mean the battery warning light?

That warning light has only one function --- to alert the driver that the alternator charging voltage is less than the battery voltage. The RAVE Electrical Library description is interesting.

The light can send a false positive indication if the small wire attached to the rear of the alternator is loose or otherwise compromised. I'd first check to confirm it's soundly attached to the alternator. In the first instance when I had the battery warning light come on a bad connection of that wire was the problem.

If that wire's connection to the alternator is sound the other thing to assess is the alternator. I recommend doing an alternator test with an appropriate diagnostic tool (built into most modern battery chargers, or available to be used at most auto parts stores).
