Immaculate Rovers
Well boys, I'm nearly there. My very own Spruce Gooses.
In January, I have to put about $3,000 more into the 2000 Disco, but after that, BOTH my Rovers will either have all NEW parts, or their existing parts will be functioning perfectly.
The *ONLY* things remaining are two VERY slow leaks in each T-Case. The rate is so slow that my mechanic said I was perhaps 1/8" down on gear oil, and it's likely they've been leaky (moist on the outside) for several months. I'll not be having these tore down quite yet.
After this, I'll be putting money into the sound system and interior, making changes to the dash for ergonomics and to accommodate some technology which I would like to integrate. Finally, in the fall if 2011, I'll be making investments to make the cabin of the vehicle more safe from ... uh.... bullets. =)

Nice job on the discos btw!
Wow, great tip- I'll definitely do that! The mechanic said it would be 8 hours of labor to tear them out and down for a re-seal.
Thanks, friend. My job is very up and down. There have been times when both Rovers sat in the driveway idle for want of fuel, and times like these when I can start having speaker covers that are dented replaced
Not sure how long it'll last, but at least the Rovers will be tight as drums if I end up back where I started.

Now, care to elaborate on that last little statement you plugged in there? I am intrigued....Here's what I picture (except a Disco)

Having a bullet-proof vehicle has always been a silly fantasy of mine, but I think I'm going to do it anyway. If nothing else, it'll make for a good story.
I don't expect to be able to stop 7.62 rounds, but for about 800 additional pounds, I should be able to stop 9mm and .40 cal rounds pretty well in the door panels. I'm not so sure about the glass, or how they'll pull that off. I know it's easy to coat regular glass with a material that requires a lot of bashing to break (which even then prevents shattering), but I doubt it would help against any sort of projectile.
Thicker reinforced glass would require re-routing of the window operation, which may be fine, since the Kevlar panels would probably require some movement as well.
I'll deal with it when the time comes. I assume I'll have to ship the vehicle off to some third party specialty shop.
If I have enough money to do this in the fall, I don't think I'll be too worried about much else! =)

if you're into bulletproof vehicles check out the BMW E67. I think you can pick those up reasonable..read a story on the bmw forum how some guy bought one and didn't know it was the security edition..he kept wondering why he was getting bad fuel mileage lol. BTW just curious do you need one for work or just into bulletproof vehicles?
