Nice. I'm up in Washington Heights, Manhattan. Happy to give some help with the install if we can work the timing out. Shoot me a pm and I'll send you my number. Like everyone is saying, the belts, pulleys and tensioner should be about an hour, if you're taking your time. Steering damper maybe 10-15 mins. You get the idea...

These are very decent guys with lots of D2 experience behind them so where possible use their superior expertise.

thanks for all the advice and help. This forum is awesome! I've decided to take on the belt and pulley job myself, with hopefully some help. Really excited. I'll also change some of the fluids (oil, steering, antifreeze, brakes).

Ordering the rod, steering damper now and getting the shop to check the suspension and shocks (they did not - which is weird, but whatever).

I do have one question, which will sound maybe stupid, but I'm unclear on how many units I need to order.

TIE ROD ASSEMBLIES >> Lucky8 has this which looks ok, but rover north has this which looks mean, no? One set is enough?
LOWER BALL JOINTS >> I want to go with Lucky8 again that has this which looks good and nicely priced, but how many do I need? 2 or 4?

Do I also need to get track rod end nuts?

Thanks!

That Rovers North part is the track rod only; the Lucky8 kit is both the track rod and the drag link. I would replace both at the same time since they both do the same amount of work and so wear at the same rate.

So I got the shop to change the shocks, track rod, tie rod ends, lower ball joint (they were completely toasted, scary) - all from lucky8. It's like driving a new truck. Fantastic.

I changed the serpentine belt and the pulleys. Pretty easy indeed, thanks everybody for the encouragement.
Done all the liquids - oil / breaks / steering (cannot flush anything, as I do everything directly in the street). All of that under 30F.... so cold.....
Topped up the coolant, which was low, with the LR one (the red), as it was on sale. I did not notice the level when I got it, but will monitor this closely.

One thing that I just noticed this morning, is a very annoying, regular squeeking (not sure how to describe it) faint, sound when I started my disco this morning. It was cold. Audi file below.

Sounds like serpentine belt, did the pitch increase with RPMs?
